Divisions

The smallest force of combined units on the battlefield is the Division.
Corps units are essentially composed of multiple divisions and, in turn, Armies are composed of Corps units. The screenshot above, shows a typical Infantry Division with a:
- Leader
- Infantry Brigades
- Artillery Support
The Division takes its name from its leader, in this case the 1-star General Johnson, and may act as a single and organized force independently or as part of a Corps or Army.
As you can see, Johnson's division belongs to General Ewell's Corps and it's not the only unit present in this Corps. In the presence of so many units how can you identify a Divisional Commander from other Units and Generals?
Look at Johnson's Icon in the Unit panel (highlighted by the red arrow). When your mouse cursor hovers over a divisional leader, the units composing the division will appear on the main screen. The main detail to look at is in the Unit Panel, namely, the dark grey stripe on which Johnson's name is embedded. This stripe only appears on divisional leaders. You can then assume that only divisional leaders have this grey stripe on their name tag; thus you only need to hover the mouse pointer on them if you wish to review the units forming the division.
In time you will also learn to identify divisions quickly by observing their NATO symbol which further differentiates divisions according to the bulk of unit types composing them.
Tip: Divisions allow to a player to maneuver multiple Brigades as you would maneuver a single unit, maximizing combat effectiveness and minimizing disorganization. This administrative/strategic advantage is reflected by the Division CP cost and by the modifiers the divisional leader applies to the unit. These add up cumulatively with those provided by the Corps the division belongs to (if any) and, in this case, with those the Army gifts to the specific Corps that the division belongs to. The maximum number of Elements a division may contain is 18.
