Overview
Marching to the sound of the guns is the name given to the mutual support that an army stack and the corps stacks belonging to that army can provide to eachother in combat even when they are located in neighbouring regions.
How it works
Whenever an army or corps stack finds itself in combat, there is a chance that corps and army stacks in neighbouring regions will join the battle, provided they belong to the same army.
The base chance of joining the battle is 100%. This probability is modified by the following factors[1]:
- -10% for each day of marching (all normal factors affecting the stack's movement apply)
- +10% if adjacent to army HQ
- +25% if the army HQ itself
- +5% for each point of strategic rating of the leader
- Every 5% of military control lacking gives -1% chance (both for start and end region)
- -10% if in defensive posture[2]
This will usually mean that it is highly likely that stacks will march to the sound of the guns, which according to Pocus is a design choice to encourage players to spread their armies rather than gathering them all in one province.
Note: Stacks that are at a passive posture will not march to the sound of the guns[3]
After combat, stacks that have marched to the sound of the guns are put back where they marched from.
Combat effects
- Troops that have marched to the sound of the guns will not benefit from any entrenchment they had in the region they are marching from, nor will they benefit from any entrenchment friendly troops have in the region where combat takes place.[4]
- Troops marching to the sound of the guns will not be penalized if they cross a river to reach the region where combat takes place.[4]
